Padmashree Guru Gangadhar Pradhan began his training in Gotipua at the age of six. After completing his Natya Acharya course in Odissi from the Utkal Sangeet Mahavidhyala, Guru Pradhan received further training in Odissi under the guidance of Guru Pankaj Charan Das, Guru Deba Prasad Das, Dr. Minati Mishra and Shri Dhirendra Nath Pattnaik. He continued to master the delicate nuances and the subtleties of the Odissi dance form Padma Bibhushan Kelucharan Mohapatra. |

Guru Pradhan is a renowned Mardala player who has accompanied Padmashree Sanjukta Panigrahi on numerous international tours and performances. Guru Gangadhar Pradhan has traveled widely to all corners of the world and is the founder of the Orissa Dance Academy and the Konark Natya Mandap, two leading institutions in Odissi dance. He received the State Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1993 and the Central Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1998. Guru Pradhan received the Padmashree award from the President of India in 2008. |
