Initiated into dance at the early age of ten, Guru Mohanty’s artistry was carefully nurtured by the eminent Padmashree Guru Gangadhar Pradhan. Over the years, Guru Mohanty has also had the privilege of working with Padmashree Guru Pankaj Charan Das, Padma Bibhushan Kelu Charan Mohapatra and Padmashree Sanjukta Panigrahi.
Guru Mohanty’s devotion, perseverance and commitment have placed her among the finest Odissi dancers of her generation. Apart from her technical virtuosity, she displays a unique skill and versatility in depicting varied emotions and expressions. |

Guru Mohanty has many awards to her credit; namely the Mahari Award 1997, Sanjukta Panigrahi Memorial National Award 2001, Fellowship by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India, and an award for her contribution to the field of Odissi Dance from the Utkal University in Orissa. She has been selected as an advisor to the Central Sangeet Natak Akademi and as the Secretary of the Orissa Dance Academy. Guru Mohanty has traveled extensively in Canada, Europe, United States, China and South America to render performances at the Festival of India series and programs sponsored by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations. She has received accolades for her choreographies such as ‘Sristi O Pralaya’, ‘Shravan Kumar’ and ‘Varsha Abhisara’. Guru Mohanty continues to inspire many Odissi dancers through her performances and teaching both in India and abroad. |
